Both an SSH key and your Research IT password are required to login to rsync.tchpc.tcd.ie
from the internet. Rsync
is the access host available on the internet for the HPC Clusters which are only accessible from the Trinity network.
If you do not have an SSH key logins configured for your rsync
login please see our generating SSH Keys for logging in instructions for how to do so.
To login with an SSH key pair please use the relevant instructions:
This requirement only applies to logging into rsync
from the internet.
Two factor authentication will not be required to login to rsync
from the Trinity network, (including VPN). Either an SSH key or your Research IT password will still work to login to rsync
from Trinity.
Two factor authentication requirements are not being applied to any other Research IT systems.
To repeat, in order to improve the security of our systems we will be requiring two-factor authentication for login to rsync.tchpc.tcd.ie
from the internet. The two factors will be:
If you have previously logged into rsync
from the internet with just an SSH key you will now also be prompted for your Research IT password. If you don’t know what your Research IT password is, please email ops@tchpc.tcd.ie to request a password reset. Please remember your Research IT password can be different from your Trinity network login password.
If you have previously logged into rsync
from the internet with just your
password you will need to add a public key to rsync
to continue to be able
to login from the internet. Please see https://www.tchpc.tcd.ie/docs/rsync-tfa/
for setup instructions, including how to generate an SSH key pair and using SSH keys to login to rsync
.
This must be done to avoid an interruption in access.
If you do not have two factors setup please see https://www.tchpc.tcd.ie/docs/rsync-tfa/ for options on how to add them.
Please contact ops@tchpc.tcd.ie if you have any questions.
