UPDATE Thurs 2:30pm: systems back online
The maintenance tasks have completed and the systems are now back online.
UPDATE Thurs 9am: power outage will not take place
We have received notice that the power outage will not take place on the19th of January. So there is no need for people in the Lloyd to power off equipment this evening (Thursday 18th).
The HPC clusters remain down while we perform essential maintenance tasks and upgrades. We expect them to be back online later today, and will send an update when we have more detail.
As part of the University's Medium Voltage Infrastructure Upgrade Project there will be a loss of power to the Lloyd Building which will affect the Data Centre on the following dates:
- 5am to 5:30am Friday 19th January 2018 (30 minutes duration)
This loss of power will necessitate the powering off of all affected equipment in the Lloyd Data Centre in advance of those times. It will take us some time to return all services to production once power is restored. We apologise for the inconvenience that this necessary work will cause.
The following clusters are hosted in the Lloyd Building Data Centre and will be affected by this power outage:
Reservations have been placed in the queue's on each of the clusters as follows:
- 9am on the 18th of January until 5pm on the 19th of January
The length of the downtime is required due to the considerable amount of time needed to power down and back on all systems in the Data Centre, not just the cluster, and ensure they have returned to service properly. Some additional maintenance tasks and upgrades will be performed on Thursday the 18th of January. We would hope to return the clusters to service as soon as possible after the outages.
At risk: this loss of power may also result in the network maintained by Research IT on the 2nd floor of the Lloyd Building and the small number of network ports in the CRANN building that are on the Research IT network being unavailable during the power outages. However, we do not expect a network outage.
DRIS - Digital Collections
The infrastructure that hosts Digital Collections, part of DRIS in the Library will have the following downtime windows:
- Downtime Window: 1pm on the 18th of January until 1pm on the 19th of January.
- With a further "At Risk": 1pm to 5pm Friday 19th January 2018.
Research Office Shared Drives
The Research Office Shared Drives are not expected to be affected by these power interruptions and should remain available. However, due to the nature of the works the Research Office Shared Drives should be considered "at risk" for these periods as they will be operating with reduced resilience.
